Politician to Curb “Irresponsible” Games
IGN.co.uk’s Rob Burman has reported:
UK Conservative Party leader David Cameron targets ‘anti-social’ media output.
UK, August 28, 2007 - In the ongoing battle between politics and video games, UK Conservative Party leader David Cameron has said that developers have a responsibility not to “promote casual violence, the gang culture and the degradation of women”.
While outlining the Tories’ plans to combat anti-social behaviour in UK, Cameron said that individuals who make films, games and music have a social responsibility not to negatively influence adolescents.
He explained: “We are never going to deal with crime unless we look at the broader context and say, ‘Yes, tough laws, strong action on the police, but also action to strengthen our society’. And that includes, I think, video games and things like that where we do need to think of the context in which people are growing up.”
Yet something else to blame video games about… I think that Mr Cameron (Mr C A Moron) should maybe look at making it that every game has to have an official rating.
Taking games like Gears of War, Hitman Blood Money and everyone’s favourite game to blame Grand Theft Auto (GTA) for the problems in society.
These games like many others already have an official rating on them unlike games like Halo, Final Fantasy and Need for Speed (which promotes street racing) which can be sold to anyone since they only come with a recommended age guide. Games like the afore mentined GTA that actually do have an official rating are not allowed to be sold to any Tom, Dick and Harry, but to those that are at least of age to play the games.
My view is that the blame is on the parents themselves. I know plenty of people myself that have kids that let their 10 year old play GTA and Gears of War… Just the other day when on Gears of War there was a little 7 year old playing the game online.
So maybe MR C A Moron should look at bringing in some more laws to stop the sale of under aged (even recommended) gamers on certain games.
Most games that are coming have an adult nature due to the fact that there is more money to be made from games aimed at adults since that is where the majority of Gamers is. So WHAT is actually stopping the Board that certifies movies from giving an official certification of games?
