UK Conservative Party leader David Cameron targets ‘anti-social’ media output.

UK, August 28, 2007 - In the ongoing battle between politics and video games, UK Conservative Party leader David Cameron has said that developers have a responsibility not to “promote casual violence, the gang culture and the degradation of women”.

While outlining the Tories’ plans to combat anti-social behaviour in UK, Cameron said that individuals who make films, games and music have a social responsibility not to negatively influence adolescents.

What better introduction of my posts than the overuse of security within Digital games.
Within the years Warez (The term that is used for illegal downloads) has increased thanks to dramatic expansion of bandwidth speeds offered by providers. This has a echo effect on media sales and can cost the industry thousands.

There for more and more forms of security over the years have been attempted to stop these illegal techniques, the most infamous being “SecuROM”. Not due to actual succeeding, but more so due to punishing those who do purchase the game legally. The new revision takes this beyond acceptable.

Gaming has over the past decade and a half become more and more popular. No longer is it seen as a “Geeky” thing but rather a cool thing to be into. 

Which is why the Designers, Developers and Publishers (DDP) have continued to move with the times and continue creating games that are becoming more and more realistic.

For the majority of Gamer that plays these games the age rating isn’t such a problem since the majority of Gamer is 18+.   This being the fact the DDP have directed most of their games at this audience, leaving the younger generation to more appropriate gaming. Movie tie-ins, racing, sports and some platform games are but a few examples.

So why is it then that the Board that gives out the recommended or official age rating is wanting to ban many of these games that are so good?
